Sick kids: tracking medications

Nothing is worse than seeing your kids sick, but tis the season!

Since my last post, I feel as if we have battled every kid size ailment possible, thankfully nothing too serious… Amoxicillin, Motrin and Tylenol were all was needed to right the ship.

That said, over the counter medications can be a real concern for little ones, especially with 2 tired parents caring for a kid (or kids) who have multiple medicines with different dosages and frequencies.

A quick search of Google for the App Store on your phone will show dozens of options For tracking kids medications. But when it’s the middle of the night and you are trying to navigate an app that you might not know well with a screaming baby, you might be ready for a more simple solution.

A very simple and very effective Dad Hack that I have found to track medicine dosing is simply to text someone (in my case my wife) the child’s name, medicine, dose given and time. This creates a shared ledger of when medicine was given that multiple people can check.

Other conversation might get thrown in between messages, but this way there will be your input as well as the time stamp from the text message.

As always, please talk to your pediatrician about any medical concerns you might have (I am not a doctor and DO NOT play one on the internet). You pediatricians website can also be a resource for medical information and medicine guidelines.
